Frequently Asked Questions
Must all signers be present?
Yes. When a notary signs and places their seal on a document, they are guarantying that they watched a signer sign the document. In the State of Texas, it is illegal for a notary to notarize a document without the signers present.
Can I sign the document before my appointment?
No. When a notary signs and places their seal on a document, they are guarantying that they watched the signers sign the document. In the event that a document is already signed, I will have you sign the document again in front of me. If you have already signed the documents, please check with who ever asked for the notarized document and see if they will accept a form that has been signed twice.
What is considered a valid ID?
Any government ID that is issued in the U.S. qualifies. This includes State IDs and driver’s licenses, U.S. Passport, military IDs, and resident alien IDs or “green cards”. All IDs must be current (unexpired) and contain a photograph and signature of the owner.
Is there anything you can do if I don’t have a valid ID?
Texas notaries can notarize documents without a valid ID if the person is personally known to them, OR if there are two credible witnesses present. A credible witness has a valid, unexpired ID and knows the signer well enough to swear or affirm the signer’s identity before the notary.
What do I do if the signer cannot travel?
Mobile notaries travel to a signer’s location of choice. I can meet you at your home, office, hotel, coffee shop, nursing home, hospital, or any other location you need as long as it is within the Leander/Cedar Park/Liberty Hill/ Georgetown area.
Can I come to your place of business?
No. I don’t have a physical location for you to come to. My address is for mail only. If you are uncomfortable having someone come to your home or office, I am more than happy to meet you at a coffee shop, restaurant, or library.
What cannot be notarized?
A notary is a guarantee that a signature is legitimate, so any document that does not have a signature cannot be notarized. This includes copies of original documents and photographs. Documents with blank or missing information, incorrect notary dates, or documents where name(s) do not match ID(s) are also unable to be notarized.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, credit card, Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
How much does it cost?
While the state of Texas does set the maximum fees for the notarization of a document, a notary can charge for their time and travel costs. The cost of service can vary, and I have a detailed list of possible fees on my FEES page where you can get an idea of what your service might cost. When you submit an appointment request, I will first email you a quote for your review along with confirming if the time you requested is available or suggesting other times if it is not. Once you confirm that you accept the quote and the time, then an appointment will be set. Please note that additional fees could be added on top of the quote during the appointment for any services added, appointment goes over an hour, or you arrive over 30 minutes late.
